Father Clockspring

Father Clockspring is a wandering tinker, vagabond of worlds.

Images:

My people were artisans -- craftspeople of unworldly delicacy and refinement.
I was a prodigy among them, mastering the arts and sciences.
But the grand edifice of our world left me cold, the society alienating.
It was not I who started the cataclysm, but I was one of the few who survived.
I live for moments of simple beauty, a vagabond looking for a world not ready to destroy itself.

Enchanter4: MMVFA master at the arcane arts of his people, Clockspring can take what he finds available and make of it so much more.

Questions:

  • What is beautiful to you?
    • That which is elegant, robust, yet portable. Peace among houses and a busy street ringing with the laughter of children.
  • How old is Father Clockspring?
    • He has lived longer than many aged men, and yet his whole life is spread out before him. Father Clockspring also has about him a mischievous youth at times.
  • IS there a reason so many of Father Clockspring's images are of females, when he's not?
    • He is not a man of machismo or bravado. He has a strong maternal instinct, and identifies very strongly with a sort of anima.
  • Father Clockspring was alienated by his advanced society, yet being an enchanter seems to lead to him being a cog in that alienation. What's up with that? How can his power help to achive a more perfect society?
    • Yes, and to this day it pulls his heart to breaking. He loves the arcane, the intricate, the advanced elements of his homeland, but he hopes in his heart of hearts that a world can gain as much as his did without losing the life that his people lost. He thinks himself to be better for trying to think of the consequences of his actions, but he still uses knowledge that he feels is somehow forbidden.
  • (as a followup comment) It seems that all of us have reasons to avoid civilization.
    • no, he likes civilization in its best moments. He loves cities, but hates slums. He loves markets, but distrusts citadels.
  • (general question from Morning Weald) Are any of your characters involved in a (ideally sphere-spanning) slaver culture/organization?
    • What if my people were slavers, which is why I hated them?
    • actually, what if they were taken down by clay golems? (Everyone agreed that was a good idea)
  • Is the name Father Clockspring indicative of your background?
    • It is more indicative of my current path.
