The uneducated think that Astrology is about how the stars control mortal affairs. Astrologers know differently. The starts don't control they record. Though the record of the stars, things that are hidden upon the world may be revealed. If this sometimes allows predictions it is only because it brings together aspects which would otherwise be unknown.
Astrology has been likened to "interpreting a text nibbled by mice, written in a foreign language, in code, by someone insane." In spite of this Astrology has been particularly effective in warning of natural events like earthquakes. (Though not meteor falls like that which destroyed the Court Of Lenderula.) It's record on more human events is more mixed. Certain major plagues have been averted (such as a recent multinational outbreak of Gorm Fever), but others have appeared with any Astrological warning.
Though in the popular view Astrologers are wise and trustworthy scholars, those who are most successful in this art actually tend to become strange and weird. The stars are not human and thinking in the manner they record changes mortals minds.
There are gray areas in regards to control versus record. The most contentious are natal charts, which match planets and moons to the thirteen signs of the Yulari Zodiac. Some could argue that it is a control of destiny; but others claim the signs simply are a record of the influences that they demarcate.
I subscribe to a hybrid school in regards to natal charts, which argues that the houses of the Yulari Zodiac simply act as a lens or a prism, focusing and concentrating the influences governed by the planets onto the world, each sign contributing its own interpretation of the planet's karmic demesne. This explains why Mara tends to be so inauspicious: on that day, we are exposed to unfiltered fate.
