Divine Activity

Divine Activity

While there is, of course, no real way of knowing why the gods choose to do the things they do, scholars have managed to draw some conclusions from the way the way they act.

The first of these conclusions is that the gods are, indeed, limited in some ways. Whether by mutual agreement, natural law, or simply their own code of ethics (though it seems to be odd to discuss to 'ethics' of an entity like Golrorray) they refuse to take certain actions. From a theoretical perspective I suppose we mortals can be glad the gods are limited in this fashion, but from a practical perspective it doesn't really make any differences. It seems that this divine limit only apply to large territories and groups. The gods may send blights, but they do not wipe out whole ecologies. They may kill individuals, but not whole populations. Finally, the gods are not permitted to rule directly. Vershethtorilon may have a near-stranglehold on Imajibar, but it is their king and queen who actually rule.

For the most gods seem to "prefer" to work through their priesthoods. While some doubt the claims when priesthoods claim magical acts for their divinities that is definitely a minority opinion. Few gods physically manifest, and those that do seem to be either "younger" or "weaker" than the other gods. A manifestation does seem to be more effective than sending a magical effect from wherever the gods dwell however.

Of course the main way the gods act is through dreams. A dream sent by the gods is unmistakable. Few of those with any sort of power or ability live their lives without one or more divine dreams.

    -- Sir Galyan Foamhand

Of course, the gods act through dreams mainly because they already are powerful.

One does not even need to practice Oneiromancy to know of the potency of dreams, regardless of their divinity.
