Influence

The Estate of Influence encompasses "the bringing about of an effect, physical or moral, by a gradual process; controlling power quietly exerted." Its miracles fall mostly under definitions 1 and 3, "a power affecting a person, thing, or course of events, especially one that operates without any direct or apparent effort" "...by imperceptible or intangible means..." The words "dominance" "control" and "motive" are all strongly associated with Influence under Nikita.

Lesser divinations give mundane information about one's Estate. Thus a lesser divination of influence would allow me to know what was influencing a particular action, or what influences would be in place upon a person in a particular situation. Similarly, I would know what actions I could take to dominate someone, to sway them to my will.

Lesser preservations of influence are simple wards, simple applications of the principle of preservation. Thus, I could ensure someone would be affected by an influence longer than they would otherwise (momentary impulses might last long enough to be acted upon), or ensure that an influence would be warded against the influences of others (a slight but significant difference). Used on inanimate objects, I could preserve inertia - that object in motion is even more likely to stay moving, that object sitting there is even more likely to want to sit there.

A lesser creation of influence would allow me to cause a new influence to exist that wasn't there before. This is pretty obvious as to its applications, especially given the list of definitions below, so I'll not get into it. In particular, I could create a new influence upon a bullet fired at me, making it fly in a different direction than it otherwise would, thus missing me. Similarly, I could create influences in people. Perhaps my body would influence bullets to go around it. Perhaps an individual is now able to influence people to do X or Y.

A lesser destruction of influence is about as simple as a lesser creation. I could remove something that formerly influenced an individual; the feeling, item, or action would still be there, the person would just no longer feel its influence. Thus a mortal would act against its conscience or without considering his loyalties, based upon the remaining influences. A husband no longer influenced by his ties to his wife might pick up someone in a bar. A mother no longer influenced by her ties to her son might kick the boy out on the street. A bullet might no longer feel like going forward.

A major divination of influence is tough. The easiest one comes from the description of the major divination of Emotion: know all the influences upon every action in a scene. Things like that.

A lesser change of influence is, really, a combination of a lesser destruction and a lesser creation, only less devastating. A person might find that their loyalty to one individual has been transfered to another, or change the way that a particular individual, object, or thing influences them. A stamp-collector could transfer his passion to car racing. A woman might suddenly be aroused by women instead of men. A bullet might suddenly be compelled to go backwards.

A major preservation of influence is daunting. I could burn an influence into an individual, ensuring that they would ALWAYS act upon it. I could preserve the influence of force upon a bullet, so that it won't ever slow down. This seems pretty self-explanatory.

A major creation of influence. Wow. This is "creating a second sun" territory here. And it's only a deep miracle for me, so I'm sure I'll be doing it SOME TIME. Any help here would be advised. The equivalent for Emotion is "add a new emotion to the normal human emotional vocabulary." I guess a major creation would allow me to create an influence upon many many people at once. Influence a city or a nation. Set it up so that EVERY human is influenced by something common in a new way (is this how allergies came about?). Similarly, I could create in someone the ability to influence others in a particular way.

A major destruction of influence is similar (and also still a Deep miracle). I could make a person no longer able to be swayed by any woman. Or swayed by any emotion. I could make a wall no longer able to be moved by being pushed. I could ensure an entire city is no longer influenced by something (say, a holiday - christmas shoppers will suddenly go "why in the world am I doing this?").

A major change - word of command time. And nasty. I'll leave this up to you, the Hollyhock God, because I don't know when I'll ever need it this early in the game, since I don't have enough miracle points to use it. I'm going to have a lot of interesting times with the lower ones anyway, so by the time I do need to perform a word of command, I'll hopefully have the grasp of the lower end of my miracles.
