(part of the lands of Marak)
Santana(Santana is a word from the Red Men - Purelanders often call it "the Frontier," a moniker that Santanans have come to associate with 'greenhorns'.)
GeographyBordering the Pure Lands to the east, Derange to the north, and the Mixed Lands to the south (along the Brave River), and the Lofty Mountains to the west. It also has a coast on the Carob Gulf, to the southeast. Santana is covered with wagon train spikes leading out from Derange and the Pure Lands, the Unity Covenant. It stretches from pleasant woodlands in the shadow of the Purple Mountains (and the marshlands south of that) to the deserts of the Big Bend in the shadow of the Lofty Mountains. PoliticsSantana is a pastiche. It is inhabited by a combination of Pale Folk from the Pure Lands, Red Men from Derange, and Jaguar People from the Mixed Lands. The clash of these three cultures has given the Realm of Santana a strong identity and a pervasive sub-culture. The towns of Santana are an intriguing blend of Pale Folk culture, Red Folk customs and the faith of the Jaguar People - they pay close attention to the single Lord of the Mixed Lands, the theandric Procellous - and almost every village has at least one duomo (place of worship) if not more. After his marriage to a Jaguar Person named Bellibone, a Margrave from the Pure Lands named August Coldstone has declared himself the Archduke of Santana, and makes his personal city (Dalehouse) the capital. He has also declared Bellibone the Archbishop of Santana. The pair have organized a group of lawmen they call 'Marshals' to help keep the peace; heading them is the Red Man named Samus Alamo. This has not made the Dukes of the Unity Covenant very pleased, as they have invested a lot in the idea of westward expansion, which includes the territories of Santana. Despite his claims of faith, the theandric Procellous frowns on him from the Mixed Lands as well. |
